Definitie
Een zeldzame mitochondriale aandoening, gekarakteriseerd door bilaterale auditieve neuropathie en opticusatrofie. Patiënten present eren zich met gehoorverlies en verlies van gezichtsvermogen in het eerste of tweede levensdecennium, terwijl psychomotorische ontwikkeling normaal verloopt. Associatie van bilaterale retinitis pigmentosa werd ook reeds gerapporteerd.
